SPORTS SKATING

A speedskater casts a shadow over the track in the morning light during
the World Speedskating Championships in Budapest on February 11, 2001. The
Championships have been overshadowed by high temperatures and bad ice
conditions. The last two races, the women's 5000 meters and men's
10,000 meters have been postponed to the end of the afternoon in the
hope the ice will be hardened.
